Essential Qualities for Good Coaching

Coaching is much different than training, consultancy, advising, or providing a professional service when work is completed on behalf of a client. The qualities required for good coaching are different to those found in other disciplines also.

Communication Skills

Coaching is a two-way process. Although listening is essential, so is being able to interpret and reflect back, in ways that remove barriers, pre-conception, bias, and disapproval. Communicating effectively allows reliance and important understanding on both sides. Good coaching uses communication not to give the client the answers, but to help the clients find their answers for themselves. When there is communication with no agenda towards the person and without judging or influencing people, are essential phase of the communication process, especially when dealing with personal anxieties.

Motivation and Inspiration

Coaches motivate and inspire people and the ability to do this lies within us all. Coaches have a desire to help and support individuals and people who feel ready to help others are normally able to motivate and inspire. It is very motivational and inspirational when someone receives attention and personal investment from a coach towards their well-being and development, like in a coaching relationship.

Listening

Listening is more important than talking to the individual when it comes to coaching. When listening to people they can be helped to overcome their fears and be offered complete objectivity and given undivided attention and supreme support. This will then leads to the intuitive questioning that allows the client to explore what is going on.

Inquisitiveness, Flexibility and Guts

Relationships between a coach and his client always vary as coaching patterns differ and people's needs are different. Everyone has their own situation and their timings are unpredictable. It is an essential part of being a coach to remember that everyone is different and has different needs. Coaching is client led, this means that the persons emotions have to be examined from the very start of the coaching process. Reacting to people's differences, the curiosity and interest to understand essential issues in people's lives are crucial in coaching. It takes courage because coaches generally have a strong belief in themselves to have a strong determination to do the best they can for their clients.

Building a Rapport

It is vital that a coach builds a relationship with people, most coaches posses the ability to have a desire to help individuals. A coach only focuses on the client so building a rapport is a lot easier to do in contrast with other services.
