Below you will find brief explanations on information about searching and obtaining a job.

Where to find a job

With today’s technology there are less time consuming and easier ways to look for a job. Why not try one of the following methods:

Local & National Newspapers

Even though you could possibly call this an outdated method employers still tend to use this.

Job centres

You can always pop down to your local jobcentre and use their machines to look for jobs in either your local area or the rest of the UK. But, what’s the point when you can stay at home and go on the jobcentre plus website. All you have to do is search for the job you want where you want. Each job gives you a choice of contacting them direct or phoning the jobcentre helpline to get an application form or the employers details.

Jobsites

There are plenty of job websites online; even if you put in the Google search “jobs” a whole load of them will appear. Some good sites are Guardian Jobs, Jobcentre plus, jobsite, jobs go public etc.

Recruitment agencies

Recruitment agencies are usually based within or near town centres. They have a selection of jobs usually within the location they are situated. They require you to go in to register and possibly do a number of tests on your skills depending on what jobs you are applying for. You may also find Recruitment agencies are now advertising online and you can fill out the registration forms there and then which saves you time before you visit.

Shop windows

You might find that some shops still use the traditional way of advertising their vacancies in their own shop window. It is worth looking around while you go shopping.

Through a friend or a friend of a friend

Sometimes friends can help you by letting you know if there are any vacancies at their workplaces where they work or word of mouth.

Keeping a record

Keep up-to-date records of who you have registered with, jobs you have applied for and interviews taken.
