Signs of stress

When suffering from stress we can experience emotional and physical reactions and may differ from one person to another. Consulting your doctor is advisable although, hypnotherapy is known to help to reduce the stress, anxiety and depression that frequently accompany it. It is vital to have a positive mental attitude when recovering from any illness whether it is emotional or physical, as it speeds up the recovery process.

People who are constantly stressed may have:

Periods of irritability or anger Apathy or depression Constant anxiety Irrational behaviour, mood swings and be oversensitive Loss of appetite A tendency to comfort eat An inability to concentrate or make decisions Loss of sex drive Memory problems Inability to concentrate Emotional outbursts Poor judgment Unreliability Poor performance Seeing only the negative Anxious or racing thoughts Constant worrying Moodiness Irritability or short temper being violent Anti-social behaviour Agitation, inability to relax Feeling overwhelmed Sense of loneliness and isolation Depression or general unhappiness

Physical stress may include:

Excessive tiredness Sleep problems Tearfulness Frequents colds and infections High blood pressure Skin problems, such as eczema Aches and pains from tense muscles, including neck ache, backache and tension headaches Increased pain from arthritis and other conditions Feeling sick and dizzy Stomach problems including constipation, diarrhoea or ulcers For women, missed periods Aches and pains Diarrhoea or constipation Nausea, dizziness Chest pain, rapid heartbeat Loss of sex drive Frequent colds Eating more or less Sleeping too much or too little Isolating yourself from others Procrastinating or neglecting responsibilities Using alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to relax Nervous habits (e.g. nail biting, pacing)
