Ten Time Management Tips
Here are 10 practical time management tips to help you get started...
1. Where are you wasting time, what are you giving up
Time management is changing the way you behave not the time you do anything. Some people spend most of their time wasting what could have been a productive day. Jobs like reading emails, telephone calls and surfing the net need a time limit in order to keep up with your current activities, try considering what you need to give up or what needs less time.. It’s good to assess frequently how you are spending your time. Stop doing things that are no longer serving a purpose and prioritise the ones that are.
2. Carry something to log things down
Make a list of your bad habits that are disrupting your time and goal setting. Sort them out thoroughly and eliminate the bad habit with a better solution. Wherever you are or whatever situation you’re in, make sure you are carrying a notepad and pen or a phone ideal for making notes such as a Blackberry or Iphone. You never know when you might get a good idea which you could forget later if not noted. Waiting too long to write things down could cause you to forget.
3. Create time management goals and put into practice a time management system
Using a computer to keep a time management system can help you keep track of everything that you need to do, organize and prioritize. Schedule times to set and evaluate your goals and go through your goal diary each week to make sure you are up to date.
4. Organize your computer system
If you are wasting a lot of time searching for files on your computer, then take time to organize your file management system.
5. Doing planned tasks
Get into the habit of completing your planned tasks, which could include making phone calls, meetings, checking and answering your emails. Set a time limit even for your planned tasks or you could be on the phone all day.
6. Don't waste time waiting around
With the latest technology you don’t need to sit down and twiddle your thumbs waiting to go into an appointment or travelling on public transport. Technology takes care of the little jobs you can get out of the way before you reach the office, like checking emails and making the necessary calls needed to make.
7. Being interrupted and dealing with it
This cannot be helped as any business has its interruptions, such as phone calls, emails and people coming into your office. This does interfere with the days productivity.
8. Learn to delegate
For effective time management you need to let unload work to other people. It doesn’t matter what size your company is, you should not be doing the work your self.
9. Do some Training
Why not make time to learn new things or to develop your talents and abilities. Do a bit of recreation time, join your local gym and do some classes, or take up reading. Improving your knowledge and skills for job purposes can help boost your career.

Do not commit to a task that you can not possible do. Stop and think about it before you give your answer as this will prevent you from overloading yourself with work.
