CARE SKILLS – PERSON CENTRED CARE AND ASSESSMENTS

AIMS:

The working environment offers a variety of challenges to individuals and teams as a whole. The course aims to enhance awareness and knowledge of the diverse needs of service users in order that these are recognised in all aspects of service delivery and in the work place. Participants need to recognise that their skills, knowledge and attitudes to service users have a significant effect on the quality of care provided.

The overall aim of the course is for participants to examine the care and support aspects of their role. Staff have a dual role of providing care and enabling people in their care. The course is also aimed at participants who wish to broaden their understanding of anti-discriminatory practice in a care setting and integrating it in all aspects of their job role.

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course, participants would have:

  • Examined and discussed the needs of individuals, the essential principles of Care and how to put them into practice
  • Identified, examined and discussed what is meant by Person Centred Care in terms of policy and practice
  • Examined and discussed their role within the care environment and its impact on service users, the team and the organisation
  • Examined and discussed how staff provide care and support to users
  • Examined and discussed the skills, knowledge and attitudes that are vital in the Care environment
  • Examined and discussed the differences of the caring and enabling roles
  • Examined and discussed how staff communicate with service users
  • Identified, examined and discussed levels of assessment in care and the practical aspects of care assessments
  • Defined and discussed the key aspects of the anti discriminatory process and its importance within the care setting
  • Identified, examined and discussed how they can promote anti-discriminatory practice in their job role/work
  • Identified and examined areas of Best Care Practice and discussed ways of improving their practice
