DOUBLE HANDED SKILLS
AIMS:
There are occasions where it is necessary for two Carers to work together to support and assist a client/service user in their personal care. This is known as ‘Double Handed Working’ or ‘Doubling Up’. A number of skills and techniques are required to ensure the health and safety of both the client/service user and carers. Paramount to these skills are communication, interpersonal, time management, planning, leading, care and team/partnership working.
The ability to communicate effectively is an important life, work and personal skill. Effective communication is the key to gaining co-operation and understanding from others. The way staff communicate and interact with each other and the client as well as how they share and receive information, can contribute towards providing sensitive and caring support, effective teamwork and how the organisation/agency is viewed by others.
This course provides an ideal opportunity for participants to examine their ‘Double Handed’ working skills/practice/experience to ensure that the client receives the highest level of quality care services.
