CV WRITING SKILLS
AIMS:
In a rapidly changing world, it is vital for all of us to continue our learning, to keep up to date and to acquire new skills. Whatever your level of experience there will be some time in your life when you will need a CV. The CV is a vital document for job hunting. It gives a clear summary of your achievements, skills, work experience and education. How often is your CV updated? In the current job market, employers receive many CVs for their vacancies. They tend to glance over CVs quickly. You need to ensure that your CV gets you on the shortlist. Times have changed and so too has the presentation and style of the CV. First impressions count and your CV needs to be eye catching, interesting and written in a powerful but concise language.
As individuals we need to ensure that our own development is not sidelined or under prioritised. Part of your commitment to life long learning and continuous personal and professional development is having an updated CV. This session will be a participative and thought provoking session, which will provide guidelines and practical tips to participants on writing their own Curriculum Vitae. The session should be utilised as a time for personal reflection and planning for the future.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the session, participants would have:
- Examined and discussed the issues regarding planning their development
- Examined and discussed what is meant by a Curriculum Vitae and its importance
- Identified, examined and discussed the main features of a CV
- Outlined a CV which will highlight effectively their skills, abilities, knowledge, experience, employment record, achievements and work requirements
- Set defined goals for their future development and discuss how these can be achieved
