Common Induction Standards for New Care Workers
It is mandatory that participants attend all three days of this course within a month.
The Common Induction Standards are designed for people entering social care work and those changing roles or employers within Adult Social Care. They set out the areas of knowledge that care workers need to know before they can work unsupervised.
All new on the frontline care sector, in particular those who have not worked in the care field before.
Care Managers are responsible for assessing the competencies of their staff and overseeing the learner’s induction period with supervision and in practical training, and completing the Caring for the Older Person Workbook with staff.

Open to people entering social care work and those changing roles or employers within Adult Social Care.
Course Content
- Common Induction Standards – 3 days underpinning knowledge and overview
- This course will give underpinning knowledge for the six Common Induction Standards as follows:
- Understand principles of care
- Understand the organisation and the role of the worker
- Maintain safety at work
- Communicate effectively
- Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect
- Develop as a worker
DAY ONE
- Introduction to the CIS and the requirements of care staff working to the national minimum standards and inline with Skills for Care and Care Quality Commission guidelines
- Roles and responsibilities of the care worker, their manager and organisation in relation to the induction period and the completion and record keeping of the log books and ongoing development
- Introduction to CIS logbooks and how these can be downloaded from Skills for Care together with guidance for both care worker and manager
- Understanding the principles of care
- The organisation and role of the worker
- Maintain safety at work
DAY TWO
- Communicate effectively
- Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect
DAY THREE
- Develop as a worker
- Going forward with induction training including progressing with log books, timescales, questions, answers and clarifications in relation to the whole of induction standards
